Unfortunately in America this tends not to be so. Most American universities are heavily populated with seriously left of center academics who control university politics. They are obviously expert at their fields of endeavor and are obviously scholarly and capable. When it comes to dealing with the fabric of real life outside a sheltering institution, these people are at a disadvantage to the general populace.

Not only that but real free speech, by that I mean listening to opposing viewpoints is NOT tolerated at most universities. Try speaking on topics like "Is abortion wrong?", "10 Reasons why we should NOT pay reparations" and such. If the speaker does not get cancelled by the administration, they are shouted down while speaking.
