<Where did you ever get the idea that liberals promote, condone, or advocate the use of armed violence? Further, you seem to nuture the mistaken idea that the Left and Liberalism are the same thing.
Since you seem to have no accurate understanding what these concepts really mean, allow me to quote for you the definitions of liberal and liberalism from my great big ol' 15 lb. American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language:
liberal - 1.a. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry. b. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.
liberalism - A political theory founded on the natural goodness of human beings and the autonomy of the individual, and favoring civil and political liberties, government by law with the consent of the governed, and protection from arbitrary authority.
Good Lord and little fishes.....
You don't think the Left and Liberalism are the same thing? Where have you been? Aside from the lovely and sweet dictionary definitions--which almost made me spew--and which have not been anywhere near accurate for close on to fifty years, everyone here knows exactly what I am talking about when I use the terms. Kindly remember who writes dictionaries.
A Leftist/Liberal is someone who believes that the power in a society should reside mainly with the government, and that the government should be able to exercise absolute control "when necessary" over every aspect of the life of a citizen. This, by definition, is armed force since the ability to wield armed force to enforce its edicts is the single, defining aspect of a government. Whether I refuse to pay taxes, decide to break a zoning law or sell lemonade without a license, sooner or later, depending on how much I resist, I will be facing a gun.
I could fill pages with examples to prove that the Liberal sees absolutely no part of your existence where he does not believe the government has some critical regulating or controlling role.
The fact that there are still some parts of our lives still outside this iron control is a testament to both our Constitution, a strong opposition in this country, and a lot of luck.
