Isn't it precisely what OBL has declared all along?
Now imagine this: the US gets the right to install bases in areas around Afghanistan were democracy is not favored. It stays there for a long time, long enough for people to develope feelings about their presence.
The danger is not the government in place accepting the US presence, but the population's deep feelings about this. And if only one (in a wealthy country) developes hatred and has a lot of money and means to build a network, secretely and patiently, then....
Isn't it ironic it's much more religious fanaticism that's the danger than communism? Karl Marx said it: religion is the opium of the people.
I'm not aware of communist soldiers willing to commit suicide.
And I'm sure OBL expected everything that's happening now and hopes for a general confrontation between Islam and the west. Knowing how Sharon makes it much more difficult to have the Arabs siding us, I wonder how close OBL is to his objectives.
