<The problem is not that Osama bin Laden believes that this is a religious war against America. It’s that millions of people across the Islamic world seem to agree.

This Newsweek Essay is excellent reading.

The comparison of Islamic extremism to the rise of fascism in Europe is dead on IMO. It is a lenghty article but very informative.
