We can help drive the Taliban out of power but what happens next? Who knows if the replacement will be any better than the Taliban? Furthermore, if they're seen as an American puppet government, they'll never have the stability needed to rebuild Afghanistan. The likely result would be another civil war and more suffering. Perhaps the best hope is for the Afghani people to build their own coalition government centered around their deposed king as a figurehead. We can offer aid and assistance but building a government is up to them.
The situation was different with Japan and Germany after WWII. Both countries had been bombed severely with millions of civilian deaths. Their governments had been overthrown through Allied military force. The population as a whole was willing to accept the change in government. I don't see that happening in Afghanistan.
