What 9/11 shows is that inspite of all the airport security, all the measures against weapons, they took control of the planes with cutters and used the planes as weapons. An enemy won't try to fight in the same field as the opponent; it's the best way to loose, especially if the opponent is much better armed. The enemy will try to surprise and use completely unexpected weapons or those for which no real defense exists, so far.
