Actually it was indeed designed to 'push a few buttons' - I am glad you could see through it.

Not only can one see where the land lies - you can push a bit farther and see the responses - but it affords me the practice of supporting points of view not symmetric with my' own. (Just a sophist at heart I guess)

At msnbc, I always used type a disclaimer at the bottom...like this

here, in the smaller numbers of posters who should al be familiar with the wide variety of post styles...I have omitted them most of the time...usually to see how folks react. The danger is no one knows what they read is real, or if it is accurately reflecting my views.

However, long-time posters can discern the distinction between me being deadly serious and being facetious or a bit of the devil's advocate.
