Snake eaters are a different breed than infantry

I've know several snake eaters over the years. Most of them are several years older than your garden variety grunt. The Green Beret types actually have to be older because they have to have served some time before qualifying. None of the ones I knew went in for trendy clothes or fancy watches. Believe it or not, units like the Green Berets are mostly made up of family men (stability) who take their jobs very seriously and are quiet about it.

I have an old cartoon at home that accurately shows the differences between different units.

The first panel shows a young grunt out in the rain, soaked to the bone. He simply says, "This sucks."

The second panel shows a Ranger moving through the muck and rain. He likes how the rain and poor visibility helps mask his position. "I LIKE the way this sucks."

The third panel shows a Green Beret complete with a dead snake in his mouth. "I wish it would suck more!"

The fourth panel shows a pilot looking out of his fighter cockpit. "It sure sucks down there."

The last panel shows an Air Force enlisted man in his room while its raining outside. "What, the cable's out! This sucks!"

Having been in both the Army and the Air Force, I know there a lot of truth in that cartoon.
