<Anti Taliban Forces Claim Key City from the Washington Post. The NA claims to have taken Mazar-e-Sharif. If true, this could be huge.
I heard on the news a couple nights ago that our aircraft are only able to fly about 120 sorties a day due to the long distances they have to fly. Our F-15Es have to fly all the way from Kuwait. Our F-14s, F/A-18s, and AV-8Bs have to fly all the way across Pakistan to hit their targets. From what I've read, there hasn't been a lot of activity by our attack helicopters, probably due to the distances involved.
If I remember correctly, Mazar-e-Sharif has an airport. If not, then perhaps the SeeBees and other construction engineers could quickly build one. Having an airport in the area opens the way for effective close air support because we could base our ground attack planes and helicopters closer to the action. It also could serve as a jump off point for our ground forces and would allow for much more effective resupply. It'd even make it easier to conduct those humanitarian missions.
I hope this story is true
