I've known many 'fundamentalist' familys that were just that nuts. I remember one family as a child that was a nice as could be and extrememly Christian, it was strange, visiting their place was like visiting a 1950s sitcom like 'leave it to beaver'. . . then one day the mother up and killed herself by carbon monoxide poisoning. The son turned out to be a total basket case.

And there are plenty more stories where that came from about other similar families.
