The reporters at the actions you describe were smart enough and had the integrity to know when to keep their mouth's shut and lay their pens down.

I honestly believe that is no longer true. From what I've seen the majority of modern media types will print or broadcast any damned thing they can get their hands on. Many times without verifying the facts sufficiently. And express little or no regret at the results of their actions.
We will have to disagree on this, but I point this out. If you have read some of my past postings you should know my feelings on freedom of the press. And anyone's right to speak their minds on the subject. If we do not have a free and unfettered press we risk the dictators fist.
If we have a press that will irrisponsibly print facts on military actions or hardware we risk the dictators fist.
It is a delicate balance, and we as the public have to keep a keen eye on both sides.
