The military seldom trusts the Press

and it isn't hard for anyone who has worn the uniform to understand why. "Loose lips sink ships" and seldom are the reporters the ones who die on those ships.

The Press's credability with the military hasn't been helped by some of the interviews given in recent months. I didn't see it so I can't swear it's true, but one of the big wigs at ABC News (Donaldson or Jennings) was supposedly asked if he'd been a reporter back in 1944 and had found out ahead of time about D-Day, would he have broke the story. His answer was yes because it was news. Never mind that blowing the story would've probably caused the invasion to fail with thousands more Allied troops being killed. Nevermind that blowing the story would've given Hitler and the Nazis a major victory and made it much harder to liberate Europe. No, "it was news", as would be the invasion's failure and high casualties. If he was honest, he'd admit he was in the hunt for a Pulitzer and nothing else matters. The military hears about it when boneheads make comments like that and knows they can never be trusted. That kind of moronic mindset seems common in the press corps.
