I am a bit tired reading about the weeping of Enron workers who "lost" a million dollars in their 401Ks. Point is, the stock was never intrinsically worth that million bucks. It was the bubble. Paper money. You can't lose what you never really had.
That aside, I do believe that it is unethical for a company to FORCE employees to invest their 401Ks in company stock. Violates portfolio diversification.
