A search of the usual left-wing rags reveals a huge imbalance in coverage of Enron with Whitewater at similar timelines in the investigations.
Those who try to convince us that the media are "objective" often point to the feeding frenzy around Bill Clinton during his impeachment investigations, with the implication being that the media would have ignored the impeachment of a President and sex in the Oval Office by a Democrat if it was really biased. A good example of a liberal making this argument:
This is of course, horse manure, as though the treatment of Bill Clinton was the only data point we are using to judge the political leanings of the mainstream media. Other data has been posted here in abundance that has nothing to do with Clinton.
What tends to be forgotten is that a lot of the big stories, like Monica, were broken open by non-mainstream sources, like Matt Drudge, or talk radio, and the mainstream media had to join in the "feeding frenzy" or look completely stupid, or even be eaten alive by their mainstream competitors.
I think we all agree that the media will go into a feeding frenzy on pretty much anyone, liberal or conservative. The difference is that to get a liberal/Democrat chewed up by the leftwing media sharks requires a lot of blood in the water, and a couple of buckets of chum to boot. A conservative or a Republican gets nailed by the sharks pretty much the second he hits the water.
