I'm sure someday his decendants will have the ability to pass a pretzel....
Seriously though, this is just another painful step in the "evolution"of human understanding. A constant march away from using mysticisim
to gloss over unknown or unknowable mechanisims. Like a century ago when it was widely assumed that the amazing diversity of geology
was proof of divine creation, I mean who could hope to understand a rock? As mechanisims are revealed, the frontier hiding "God" is pushed back past the atom, quantum mechanics, DNA, etc.... to the point
where those with sufficent scientific sophistication have "God" working through quantum uncertainty.
But like any issue of contention, it's the vocal minority who are the
ones who want to maintain their societal credability by not having
what their kids are taught 1 day of the week called rubbish 5 days of the week. My personal favorite tactic is tying this together with
morality and the presumption that without there being a metaphysical consequence for every action, the U.S. (or other region of concern)
is doomed. A nice example of this (coincedently) is Bork's book "Slouching into Gommorah".
It's amazing how people can segregate aspects of their lives. There
is a small but steady percentage of College Physics profs who are
die hard creationists and are exacting and merciless in (for example)grading classical mechanics assignments while accepting the most porous, self contradictory garbage in defence of classical (Earth 6000 years old) creationism.
