Re: Enron: is anyone actually buying this crap?

Enron is big news for one, single reason: the Democrats thought they could use it as a hammer to crush Bush and the Republicans, and their myrmidons in the media went along with the program. People are being taken for a ride on this. Being suckered.

And when the socialists can't make anything stick to Bush, they will try to stick it to the capitalist system. Right now they are doing anything they can to keep the momentum going, and with any luck put enough panic into the market to keep the economy down until November elections, but this was a non-story from the start.

No other bankruptcy has made news like this, including Global Crossing, which is being shut up because there are big Democrats in that woodpile. Enron is the biggest bankruptcy? Only if you evaluate it by its supposed value, which was apparently all inflated baloney to start with.

Much of the dot-com industry collapsed around here like a house of cards, leaving many times the number of employees that Enron had with worthless stock in their retirement programs. Did that make the papers the same way Enron has? Where the hell was Jesse Jackson then? Did each of the CEOs of the dot-coms get hauled before the Grand Inquisition of the Senate, to be grilled for political gain by stinking hypocrites who have themselves funneled hundreds of millions out of corporations in return for favors?

I have some nicely-decorated toilet paper myself that was supposed to be my retirement stock certificates. So what? That's part of the game when you get into the business. You can bet Enron employees weren't bitching when they thought they had scored hundreds of thousands of dollars that they did nothing for except sit on expanding stock value.

I could girdle the planet with the number of people who have busted their asses trying to do something new, with a promise of eventual riches, only to end up with nothing. Wildcat oil drillers. Speculators. Day traders. Legions of entrepreneurs. Big businessmen. Small businessmen. That's freedom, folks. For every Bill Gates there are a hundred other entrepreneurs serving french fries right now. But you can bet they won't be for long. That's the way they are.

Until this Enron thing is recognized for the political hoax that it is, the economy is not going to turn around. And Democrats are counting on this.
