I never said Enron didn't do anything wrong, or even illegal. I just said that the laser focus on this particular company's less-than-pristine bookkeeping was all political. As for the free market system, the wreckage of Enron proves it works. If corruption paid off, Enron would be riding high right now, and loaded with other people's cash. Kind of like Chrysler some years back who when THEY whined to Washington for help, got a big load of taxpayer money thrown into their laps. Somehow I must have missed the hearings on that case.

I know there are a lot of people out there who wish that such economic destruction could be painless, with employees not getting hurt and other blameless people not getting the shaft. Unfortunately, that's life.
