I had no idea Jimmy Carter's efforts to assist the 'residentially challenged' were within the framework of a program as worthy as the description of HfH indicates it to be.

Sorry. I had mistakenly assumed that Carter's efforts to assist others in his private life were as clueless and misguided as his pathetic attempts to lead this country as President. But you and Tom are right, this Habitat for Humanity thing sounds laudible.

I guess my extreme scepticism of many efforts to understand and assist the 'homeless' stems from my own personal experience with one uncle (not 'down on his luck' or 'unfortunate', but a true bum, of his own choosing, as is most often the case), and also from having lived in Africa among people who understand true material deprivation and suffering on a level that very few American crybabies could ever fathom.
