The only reason there is still a Taliban in the area is because the "good guys" let 'em go in the first place. They're closer to each other than to us.

I know some people regarded Byrd's asking about an "exit strategy" almost as treason, AND it seems reasonable to wonder what a realistic one could be. Do we want to wipe out everyone who dislikes the US before we can leave? I don't think BC (Bush-Cheney) would admit to that even if it were true, and there's a chance it isn't. (A very small chance. One dog's belief.)

I'm not saying I have an answer. I'm not paid to do that. I'm not saying I'd necessarily disagree with BC. I'm just hoping they've thought it out, or get it thought out before too many more people die. Here's praying we don't get tangled up in another open-ended version of the Russian-Afghani affair, or another Vietnam. The bottom line is whoever wants it the most usuallywins, and on home turf oftentimes they want it more (Vietnam).

Let's see if folks can get vituperative over someone hoping we don't have needless deaths because we haven't separated the possible and desireable from the impossible and desireable.
