Current Events » in reply to Allegiances are Challenged in Debate Over Reciting Pledge . . .

What's the goal?

Don't misunderstand me, I don't care if kids do this or not. And, why have kids do this? It doesn't seem to me to have any real significance, any more than having kids do the Nazi salute. They can't understand the meaning, I don't think. (I remember wondering why I was pledging allegiance to the flag, fer crying-out-loud. Was it just that flag, or every flag?)

There aren't people around watching to see if some kid doesn't, and then report him/her to the authorities so the parents can be watched. I'm sure.

Pledging allegiance when there is a purpose, such as entering the military, or even going to work for the Federal government, makes a whole lot of sense. But I don't get the idea of having kids do it. Certainly not having kids do it doesn't mean they are telling the country to "shove it".

Maybe someone can explain it.
