Or oaths taken by people who don't understand them. Most oaths of the type you mention are taken voluntarily, "freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of
evasion." Or at least they should be.
I'm not sure I would put the Pledge of Allegiance into the "so help me God" category of loyalty oaths, so it may be a moot point anyway.
