to see the world as nothing but black and white, good and bad, us versus them.
Simpler. Easier. Much, much more secure.
Didn't have to think, with the anxiety which comes to those who realize there is more than one side to a story, there may be two, three, four, or maybe some stories are a huge sphere, hard to grasp, harder to see inside.
Didn't have to wonder, could just stay angry. And, I could have fun attacking those who disagreed, as the justifiable anger I generated was much more comfortable than experiencing the fear of maybe not knowing it all, of maybe the other guy having some justification, too.
I have to admit to not being able to see the world as that completely black and white for a long time. I miss the comfort that blinders provide.
But then, this way the experience of life is much richer. There's a lot out there to understand, other points of view. After a while the world can make sense even without the security of blinders. People turn out to be pretty much similar, wanting to be respected and treated fairly. All of us.
Most folks won't understand this post at all. I didn't say "agree with", none will, that's a given. I said understand.
