Raoul, you're absolutely right. And, the World Court as far as the US is concerned isn't going to happen. The Reagan Administration lost 50 cases in it, didn't abide by the verdicts, and withdrew.
As far as the World Court is concerned, the US won't give up any sovereignty. And history is written by the powerful. That's why Milosivec is on trial, and not Bill Clinton. That's why Sharon isn't dangling from the end of a noose instead of invading Palestine.
The US supports globalization as long as it means economic dominance of other countries. When they have a chance to out-perform the US, as in steel or lumber, we resist. Immigration is aa logical extension of "globalization" and that scares the US.
Heck, the current US government calls China's efforts to control their population human rights abuses. True story.
I truly believe the American people are the most fair-minded folks in the world when they are given the truth. Unfortunately, in my opinion, what information is disseminated here reflects the interests of multi-national corporations, what that popular Republican president Dwight David Eisenhower called the "military-industrial complex". And jingoism always sells.
"Globalization" is a perfect example. As long as "globalization" is seen as keeping dividends high, it's sold in the US as super. The key here is "dividends". You can shaft the worker with "globalization, as with NAFTA, but if it's good for dividends it's a good thing.
When "globalization" is bad for dividends, as recently with steel and lumber, then it's jettisoned.
And, the US public has been sold on the idea of "globalization", even when it's against the best interests of most of us. Even when it's bad for many people.
I believe there is no people more fair-minded that US citizens. And, I believe jingoism sells - bombers, tanks, bombs, and so on. There is no money in mediation or peaceful conflict resolution.
Do you know how many F-16s we sell Saudi Arabia? If we couldn't do that, the oil we purchase would have to be paid for some other way. We need the tension.
What the heck. A bunch of opinions, it's been fun. And, Europeans get different info that the US. I'm convinced if we all got the same stuff we'd all see it the same way. Except for a few. Gotta go.
