Re: Through the looking glass

A thoughtful post.

Again, please remember that the motives of the Germans moving into the Warsaw Ghetto were totally different from the motives of the Israeli Army, as were the motives and actions of the Jews in the Ghetto different from the Palestinians.

There are many differences. For one thing, the Israelis have not engaged in formal organized genocide of Palestinians. The Ghetto uprising was sparked by the Germans shipping 300,000 Jews to the death camps.

For another thing, 5,000 to 6,000 Jews a month were dying in the Ghetto from starvation, disease, exposure to cold, and shootings. While a refugee camp is no walk on the beach, I don't think there is a real comparison.

For a third thing, all the military action by the Jews was against German military and police forces. I do not recall Jews sneaking out of the Ghetto and blowing up German civilians in marketplaces and churches.

If the Palestinians had not been bombing civilians, and just sitting around in their villages minding their own business, and the Israelis had moved in and wrecked houses with tanks just to be bastards, you might have a case. I certainly would have a different view of it.

I also should point out that a lot of camps are on Arab territory, and it isn't the Israelis "confining" them to these camps. When the Arab nations were getting ready to annihilate Israel, they told Arabs to flee, moved them into camps, and promised they could go back home after Israel was destroyed. Ben Gurion (sp?) tried to talk the Arabs into staying, and living with the Jews. Some did. They still are, and vote in Israeli elections. The rest have been renamed "Palestinians" and are still in the camps. It's not all Israel's doing.
