You are putting words in Ashcroft's mouth again.
I seem to have missed Ashcroft specifically complaining about the Constitution at all, much less the First Amendment. In fact, I have found nothing in his speech saying so. He did express disappointment with a Supreme Court ruling, which is not the same thing at all.
You can certainly express disappointment with the Supreme Court without expressing a negative opinion on the Constitution, can't you?
It's not that hard to remember an occasion just after the last big election when every Democrat and liberal in American was complaining about the stupidity of the Supreme Court. Were they all anti-Constitution?
