I know it bothers you, and I'm trying to understand. No need for sweeping generalizations or characterizations. You don't have to stoop to that, you, for one are bright enough to have a choice. Some around here don't have that choice, apparently.
The history.
The 1967 peace settlement signed by Israel and promoted by th US and the UN gave the Palestinians certain lands, and guaranteed Israel other lands.
Israel was allowed an army, tanks, artillery, rockets, fighter planes, and so on, much of it given to it by the US.
The Palestinians were allowed a police force, light arms.
The Israelis started building villages on the land they agreed belonged to the Palestinians. The rationale is the Old Testament gives the land to the Israel, regardless of anyone else.
The Palestinians protested to the UN, and the US. The UN, and the US sent letters asking the Israelis to cease and desist.
The Israelis kept building on lands they had agreed belonged to the Palestinians.
More letters from the US and UN.
More Israeli settlements.
So far, so good? Was that the situation? (It doesn't really matter if you think the land is no good - it's not yours to give away.)
Now, does that describe the origins of this situation to you so far?
If so, we can move on.
As the Israelis build more settlements and their standard of living improves (the land is free), the Palestinians standard of living declines. They are in a ghetto controlled by the Israeli army of occupation.
They control travel, work, everything. The Palestinians have a police force, the Israelis have tanks, American helicopters, American M-16s, rockets, etc.
The Palestinians protest the encroachment on their lands, the violations of their civil liberties and start to protest. They throw rocks, etc. They kill the occasional Israeli.
The Israelis protest the Palestinian protest, killing 25 Palestinians for each Israeli killed. That ratio isn't intentional, it's just that with only a police force the Palestinians aren't as good. The Palestinians throw rocks, get rockets back. However, they perceive they have no choice, no one will stop the Israelis, no one cares about their civil rights.
Except, the US and the UN write more letters, asking the Israelis to stop building.
The Israelis keep building on Palestinian lands.
So, the Palestinians protest with suicide bombers. The Palestinian loss ratio goes to 3 to one, three dead Palestinians to every one dead Israeli.
Because the Palestinians are so unreasonable, the Israelis elect a war criminal as Prime Minister.
And now your advice to the Palestinians is to lay down, submit completely to the Israelis, let 'em build on the worthless land anyway, and be happy they aren't being tortured or killed.
Is that it? If not, where is it wrong?
I don't think you can give this a straight answer.
