It's odd that one would pay more attention to the source of funding of an academic organization instead of whether or not they were telling the truth. This standard does not seem to be applied as a rule to left-wing think tanks.
Capitalism = good, socialism = bad is a conclusion that could be drawn by a congenital idiot upon examining the history of this century.
Capitalism concentrates wealth and power into a few, non-accountable, non-elected hands. Power that can cripple states and ruin thousands of lives...
Odd. This seems to me to be the situation in socialist nations far more than capitalist ones. Check the list of socialist countries in my reply to Bowser. I fail to see your point.
- Enron is in the toilet because the system works.
- Bill Gates, for all his wealth, can't keep me from buying a Macintosh. I just bought three. Nor can he tell me what to do in any other facet of my life. I wish the same were true of government officials.
The suggestion that we should now censor what our children should be allowed to learn (as if that does not happen already) is a dangerous one.
If you are willing to post here that you think a university teacher should be allowed to advocate Nazi philosophy and the inherent superiority of the Aryan race over Jews and other minorities, then you can claim a valid point. Otherwise, not. While students should of course learn the history of Communism and National Socialism, I don't think academics who are advocates of these philosophies should be hired by universities. And it isn't censorship if it isn't a government mandate.
As things stand, students in US and British Universities may learn that there are other fairer, more intelligent ways of organising a society then the version of free market capitalism currently practised...
Not likely. Not unless they do more listening than thinking. Again, check history. I went to college too, and if I had a nickel for every card-table socialist in the student union claiming that "next time" a nation went Marxist, it wouldn't turn into a totalitarian hellhole, because every rotten communist slave nation in the past was just another mistaken interpretation of "real" socialism. We're all still waiting for that exception. "This time for sure, Rocky!"
...but by the time they learn it it will be too late for them to take what they have learned and put it to use. Why? Because they will be in deep debt by the time they complete their education with no choice but to join the "Free Market Capitalist" roadshow in an effort to pay off that debt.
I'm crying real tears here for these poor sods. Have to get an actual job, eh? Have to actually pay for that education instead of forcing some other poor sod to do it? Too bad, otherwise they could "take what they have learned and put it to use." How? By carrying signs at anti-American protests?
I have always been amused that almost every academic advocate of socialism I have met, read, or heard of is comfortably squatting in the hammock of capitalism in the U.S. and elsewhere. Never met one who decided he would rather live in Cuba, unless the cops were after him.
Oh, by the way, welcome to the board...
