"While campaigning for the prime ministership, Binyamin Netanyahu Criticized his Labor party opponents for missing an opportunity during the Tiannamen Square massacre. "Had he been prime minister, he said, he would have seized the chance then, while the world was watching China, to carry out the transfer of the Palestinians." -- p. 137 Washington Report 09/1998
Sharon said the same thing a couple years after Tiannamen. This is about the hardest line view in Israeli politics. I think Sharon has come to grips with the fact this is not a realistic option. Terrorists and militants can be deported but not an entire population. Netanyahu may TALK more hawkish during an election campaign, but he can't BE any more hardline than Sharon as prime minister. Sharon IS the Israeli hardline.
Sharon's recent policies have failed to blunt the deadly terrorist attacks on unarmed civilians and he will thus likely be toppled from power soon. I think it should be noted the terrorist attacks have increased markedly since the bulk of Israeli forces have pulled out of the West Bank.
Unlilateral seperation is the only way. Peace is for another, yet unborn, generation.
