If Islam was so awful, why don't they renounce it?
I'm sure they have as much respect and devotion to their religion as westerners have for theirs.

Poor writing skills and sloppiness have made me convey the wrong impression.
Yes, I've strongly criticized the American feel good TV characterization of "Islam is love". Done so because many promininent Muslim clerics preach the opposite which is ignored by the mainstream media. However, I do not believe that Islam per se is an "awful" religion. Certainly not to my taste, but not awful or evil per se.

It's that segment of Muslims often known as "Islamists" that I regard as evil. Long before 911, Islamists had been a term in use througout the Muslim world to identify what I'd describe as fanatic jihadists intent on destroying the western cultures and people. I just wish that the Islam is Love crowd would make a concerted effort to repudiate, reject, isolate and purge these bastards on their own. So far, all they've given is occasional lip service with qualifiers. Hardly a strong stand.
