"Might not be wise..."?
I submit that wisdom is speaking the truth, and if that makes us enemies then far better we recognize that up front. An enemy disguised as a friend can be far more dangerous than an avowed enemy.
I wouldn't trust the Saudis as far as I can throw my car. You speak of leaning from history....Arabs have a history of duplicitous, double dealing, back stabbing betrayal of their "friends".
"Fighting wars we can win...."?
I wasn't aware that we get to pick and chose our battles. Seems to me that if an enemy murders a couple thousand innocent people you don't have the luxury of declining a conflagration. To take a crime like that laying down would be an open invitation to every crack pot on earth.
I agree that Vietnam was a farce, but not for the reason you cite. We should have stopped the chinks cold there, because now we'll have to take them on again, and this time it won't be 5,000 miles from home.
I also take exception to your definition of a conservative. While I shy away from labels, I consider myself a conservative and I have no such attitude. My idea of conservatism is; "I'm a free man, give me my space. You do what you please, so long as you don't tread on me." Status plays no part in my views of other people.
God plays a major role in the destiny of this country. Inspite of our mistakes and follies, which I agree are many, He is faithful to deliver us. This war on terror is really a war between good and evil.
