Children. We have special conditions in this country for children because most of us realize children have not had the chance to formulate their own belief systems, and are not able to resist many pressures and temptations. Including peer pressures.
(I will admit that deprives children of certain rights, such as the right to work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. That deprivation irritated the political conservatives of that time, too. They said that society couldn't afford to have children not work. I assume that's not work if they wanted to work.)
Force -
1. To compel through pressure or necessity.
3.a. To put undue strain on.
That, for a kid, at least a kid like me, includes peer pressure.
As to the point I made, of being satisfied with having a child pledge allegiance to his country and letting the kid and his family figure out what to do about the Christian God, no one commented.
I really don't think our country or kids would be diminished by that.
