I just trashed my first response as too big and involved and probably responding to something you really didn't mean. Before I launch that rant, let me just triple-check this one: you think that "loathing the US and all it stands for" is really on the curricula in Northern California? And/or you think teaching ancient history somehow translates into such poison? And you think it's somehow typical in Northern CA as opposed to other places in the country?
