Entitlement program
You pick the premise: schools funded by the taxpayer, or privately-funded private schools. I would naturally prefer the latter as an eventual goal, but if I'm stuck with public financing, at least let the parents have some choice.
I can understand why the Left would get cranky with the parents and students inserting themselves firmly into the flow of money from taxpayer to education facility, normally the exclusive territory of bureaucrats, but they can get used to disappointment.
