compared to the total money spent for education. Of the total education expenditures in the US, the last numbers I remember seeing indicated that less than 10% came from the federal government. Almost all of the money comes from state and local taxpayers instead of from the federal taxpayers. Those federal dollars often come with some very expensive strings attached, too.

Second, taxpayer money is already being spent hand over fist for education. Vouchers give parents a choice over where the money allocated for their children's education is spent. Funny how some people seem to believe that the concept "freedom of choice" only applies to abortion. It's also funny how some people talk about "saving schools" when the argument should be about the children.
