Taiwan, if it is "reintegrated" into China will be a virus against their tyrannical government, it the powerful centrifugal forces at work don't blow the country apart.
As to China's ability to absorb punishment, yes the agrarian portion of China could survive some attacks at the rural level but China's very limited internal transport system is very vulnerable to attack.
The industrial capacity is highly concentrated.
The oppression enforced by the oligarchy in Beijing is not very innovative under pressure.
And the ROW is not in a hurry for chinese hegemony, imho.
