Current Events » in reply to Jerry Pournelle on Iraq--the short version

I'll tell you what he left out:

He's got most of it covered pretty accurately but misses an important method.

The Rumsfeld/???? Way:

Use major military movements of armed forces materials to prompt Iraqi tactical movements.

Mobilize existing special Presidential, non-military, non-CIA forces to prepare ground for further incursions. Increase CIA special forces presence in and around Baghdad. Simultaneously secure and enter into multiple access points of underground labyrinth under palaces and other points in Baghdad and systematically destroy bunkers while trying to find and locate Saddam's bunker. Keep major military forces out of the reach of Saddam's deployed bio-arsenal. After Saddam is captured or killed - "non-existent" models of helicopters arrive to come to extract teams under heavy air support.

Republican Guard Generals bought off or eliminated. New leader is (cough cough) already awaiting opprtunity to take the helm. Oil prices stabilize. Military forces remain on high alert as Saddam City renames itself and burns their pictures of Saddam in a big bonfire. Oil contracts with Russia, France and Germany cancelled. New ones issued depending upon their cooperation. Lucrative contracts with new government for US. Dow precisely back to 10,357 by the next Presidential election.

PS
Naturally, procurement of certain conventional military materials goes way down if this technique were successful. For this technique would be usable in most 3rd world countries. The JCOS HATE this plan as well as many in the military industrial corporate sector, who subtly and not-so-subtly push towards conventional ground war.
