Al Queda

<The US has troops in Afghanistan. Did this eliminate terrorism?

It sure as hell eliminated terrorism based in Afghanistan.

I would be tickled pink to be able to get rid of terrorists using only police actions, but somehow I get the feeling that dropping a hundred Interpol cops into the Taliban-ruled Afghanistan would not have gotten very far.

Police work is useful in helping to locate terrorists and cells in cities in Europe and the U.S., and it has been doing fairly well in this area. But for prying them out of a nation that is governed by a sympathetic tyranny, there is no plausible alternative except military force imposed from outside.

In nations like Indonesia, where the government is ostensibly against the terrorists, police action and locally-based military actions are indeed the best solution, although the rest of the world should provide assistance where it can.

Turkey has had an excellent record, if a bit brutal, of suppressing the extremists in their own country.
