Re: 27.4 MILLION pounds
You do know what cold cuts are, don't you? I happen to eat a lot of sliced ham and turkey sandwiches, because they're low in fat and cholesterol compared to some other meats. I probably account for a couple of pounds a week all by myself, and my son can polish off a package of baloney (yeah, that's how I spell it. So?) in a couple of days.
Still, if a brand of meat came out that was irradiated, I would probably buy it preferentially. Certainly in the case of ground beef or eggs. I do pay extra for such things that are raised and processed under more stringent conditions than normal.
