I'm sure these silly racial categorizations didn't appear until much later in human evolution...

"Islam is a natural way of life, not a religion."

There's actually a great deal of truth to this statement, at least given the current understanding and practice of Islam in the world today. Islam may of course change, have a reformation, in future years. Islam is not at all a "religion" in the same sense that nearly all variants of Christianity and Judaism are understood to be "religions" in the Western world. At the risk of sounding politically incorrect, with rare exceptions such as Turkey or Bosnia, Islam is more accurately described by what Westerners would call a "cult" rather than a "religion". Islam rigidly guides each and every aspect of a Muslim's life, not just "religious" decisions or issues. There is no boundary or limitation between one's private religious identity and one's public life, there is no separation of church and state, and there is no room for accomadation of other beliefs or practices of non-Islamic origin.

Some Islamic scholars even go so far as to claim that Islam is fundamentally incompatible with what they view as "Western" Democracy. Why would a society need a Parlement and other democratic institutions to create, interprete, and enforce a set of secular laws when the only laws the society needs are already given in the Koran?
