Monkey nature

Tribalism is built into the species, deep in our primate nature. If it wasn't skin color, it would be something else, like which end of the egg you break before you eat it.

Evolution known for not always making perfect matches of traits, and most of the problems of the human race can be traced to the gift of intelligence, which is by nature a thing which operates on an individual basis, grafted onto a primate which by nature is most comfortable in a rigid social heirarchy, as either an alpha or a subservient.

This theory occurred to me once as I was wondering why collectivist and authoritarian societies like dictatorships and communist regimes seem to come so easily to humanity, while societies founded on freedom and individualism, where human intelligence and reason thrive, have to struggle constantly to keep from slipping into collectivism.

We're basically the equivalent of a winged pig on the evolution chart, and I suppose it's a miracle we've gotten as far as we have.

I wonder what it would have been like if intelligence had arisen in an animal that is by nature individualistic, like some of the big cats, or orangutans.
