So that would explain why the early Great Civilizations were all agrarian.
Egypt. China. Mesopotamia.
The Maya and Aztec civilizations developed subsequent to the domestication of corn; the Inca, due to that lowly tuber, the potato.
Rome's backbone was its agrarian base, that could support its armies.
France could support empire as often as it did because it was the breadbasket of the West, not because of its vast hunting reserves.
The gatherers in primative societies, incidentally, are the women. The hunters are the men. As is so often the case, the high-profile stuff provides limited resources with high drama, but the continuing domestic stuff provides society's structure and stability.
It does get the men out of the cave, though.
