I think the point I was trying to make, apparently not very well, was the hypocrisy of the situation. The Democrats pride themselves on being the party of tolerance, colorblindness, and all around liberal warm fuzziness, but when it comes down to it, they probably are more obsessed with a person's color, culture, sexual preference, or other externality than many Republicans. And now look who's using "gay" as a cheap shot. A lot of liberals are more prejudiced than they like to think.

How many black people have run across a liberal type who suddenly starts altering his behavior to show how "tolerant" and "progressive" he is? Sometimes ludicrously? You can just see the main idea running across his brain: "This guy is black. This guy is black. This guy is black." Along with all the preconceptions of what a Black Person likes, dislikes, thinks, and feels. And unfortunately often a certain patronizing condescension for the "oppressed."

What makes this funny is when the black guy says he's a Republican, and you can see the liberal's train of thought go right off the tracks and into a ditch. He gives the conservative black the same look a normal person would give a dog who suddenly stood up and talked. I've seen this at least twice (I obviously deal with more black conservatives than liberals.)

Obviously prejudice, even the patronizing sort, is an across-the-board phenomenon. There is the same kind of behavior from some old-style conservatives, who can't see past skin color or other externality either, although more often the reaction is dislike.

Not being black myself, I leave it up to others to decide which is worse: the contempt, or the patronization.
