I mean, sure, he's a democrat, as evidenced by Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com (I personally don't know this), but I would think it more hypocritical for an attorney general to rule against a standing law. As you stated somewhere earlier on, there is no reason to change electoral laws, just because it's suddenly time for an election.
