In Arizona a fellow named Trent Franks (R) won big - and he's an avid pro-lifer who put babies and kids in all his election posters.
In the highly religious zones - pro-life sells tickets. In SoCal ironically it was the kiss of death.
Salmon (R) lost for governor here not because folks loved the slightly better looking Arizona rendition of Donna Shalala, but because he was a Mormon.
Mahoney (I) received over 60,000 votes - and he was ripping into the others for the blind-eye turned to the bizarre polygamists of the Utah/Arizona border.
Salmon was the most vulnerable and hardest hit by this approach - and a lot of those 60,000 Mahoney voters are Christians who are dead set against polygamy.
Bizarre local politics.
Roe vs. Wade will stand. Abortion will always be legal. Otherwise we would be inundated with even more poor unwanted children. More minority women would have kids out of wedlock than is even now the case. That means more crime, violent crime and poverty. Is this what is "best" for America?
I certainly don't think so.
