In America there is a large resevoir of people who are opposed to slaughtering people who have not harmed us. Who recognize the "eye for an eye" principle requires that an "eye" be taken first.
That sense of decency is a valuable national asset, and is what has made this country great. The passion with which that decency is expressed is a wonderful example of American virtue, such is it is any more.
Not "pre-emptive" invasions, which we have scorned as the actions of despots, not stealing other countries wealth, not keeping the population fearful in order to preserve ill-gotten political gains.
We should treat those protesters well, for they are the only current expression of what has kept this country great, even through such things as the McCarthy years.
