I tracked the cascade of Democrat/media attacks here as they happened. Some newpapers must have entered their morgues for the first time in years to dig up stuff on Lott. I repeat: Nobody from either party who was in politics from the Southern States in the 50s and 60s could withstand such scrutiny on segregation.

But I will grant that although the Democrats lit the fire with the intent of destroying whatever the Republicans might have gained in the election, I don't see any Republicans lining up to put Lott out. IMO, the Republican terror of being fitted with the dreaded White Hood has pretty much paralyzed them. I can't figure out why...the Republican record on racism is as good or better than the Democrats, but that's not how it's played.

Big victory for Democrats. Republicans in disarray, those critical black voters hauled firmly back onto the plantation, and even a chance to steal the Senate back if Lott resigns completely.

Ah well. Someday the minorities in this country will realize that in some ways a leash around the neck is as bad as a noose.
