I've seen the video from Sturm's birthday three times, and each time I was struck by the stunned silence of the audience. They understood his meaning perfectly. Nobody had to put a spin on it--Lott screwed himself to the wall in realtime. The reaction from Democrats is actually restrained, given the huge opening Lott gave them.
