As soon as I heard the Lott remarks, I just groaned. The man made some incredibly stupid remarks and, as a bumper sticker of a coworker says, "Stupidity should be painful."

For days after he made his remarks, the most intense coverage I saw anywhere was in the blogs like InstaPundit, Powerline, and many others. Decidedly nonliberal outlets like the Wall Street Journal editorial page came out against Lott early and often. No one would accuse Dr. Thomas Sowell of being a liberal, nor David Brooks of Newsweek.

Lott opened his mouth and managed to insert his foot all the way to his knee. His stupidity is likely to be his downfall and we'll be the better for it. "Stupidy should be painful."
