The Palestinians, if they want a state, can get it.
If they think they can destroy Israel militarily while claiming to seek a state, they will fail.
The inevtability of demographics, as they are currently progressing, means that Israel as a jewish state will not be viable unless the Israelis learn to make a peace.
The intractability of this is bleeding both sides.
The bad intentions of many on both sides means that a reasoned settlement may not be possible any longer. Both sides have either killed or politically rejected those who have sought accomodation.
The deliberate targeting of civilians and the collateral damage on civilians leaves both sides unwilling to look past their most closely held passions.
This is a tragedy in the classical sense, and may come to the same end as a Greek tragedy.
