Perfect definition of a military quagmire: can't fight all out (Israel won't, and the Palestinians can't), and can't surrender. For the latter, the Israelis would have to commit suicide, while the Palestinians would cease to exist as a political entity.
I can't prove it of course, but I firmly believe that if Israel pulled back from every last West Bank settlement, and granted Palestinians total control of that area, that after an initial pause, the bombings would continue. In my more cynical moments, I think that the People's Republic of Palestine would in fact eventually become a world haven for anti-Israeli terrorism. I have seen nothing in the actions of the Palestinian leadership so far to lead me to any other conclusions.
Some new leadership is needed with a bigger picture in mind than "Death to Israel." There have been many leaders on Israel's side in the past few decades. Only one for the Palestinians. Time for a new face on that end for a change.
